The most important thing to buy before starting to learn an instrument is the instrument itself! There are lots of options available and it can be tricky to tell the difference in quality, especially when we're new to the world of pianos and keyboards!

Some of the most reliable brands / piano and keyboard instrument manufacturers include: Yamaha, Roland and Casio.

Most keyboards can be purchased either alone, with an accessory kit or selected accessories, for example a keyboard stand, a stool, headphones, and more.

To make choosing the right keyboard as easy as possible, I've put together a collection of the best options on the market.

Best keyboard options for beginners:

For an electric keyboard

The requirements are at least 61 keys but preferably 88 semi weighted keys

Yamaha 61 keys

Costway 88 keys

Best keyboard for intermediate learners (Grade 3-5):

For purchasing an electric piano.

The requirements are 88 weighted keys.

Muststar Digital Piano

Yamaha Digital Piano

Piano recommendations for advanced pianists (Grade 6+):

For advice on purchasing a piano contact:

Hanna and Sons Pianos, Wimbledon.

Sheargold Pianos, Cobham Surrey.

Piano Warehouse, High Wycombe.
